Additionally, if you wash your clothes with a full load of laundry and in cold water, you can save energy and money, not to mention (indirectly) saving water that would have otherwise been used for cooling in power plants.
The only exception here is if you need to use warm to hot water for sanitising clothes, bed sheets, etc., then, for hygiene purposes, you should use warm to hot water. In general, cold water will often suffice, and (usually) allows you wash colours and white together.
